L.A. workers aren’t too confident about their job prospects, according to the latest Hudson Employment Index.

L.A. workers concerned over hiring expectations and layoffs caused the index for Los Angeles County to slip 1.6 points to 100.6 for the month; nearly seven points lower than the same time last year.

The index showed that only 26 percent of the local work force believed their organizations would be increasing head count in the coming months, down eight points from August and the smallest amount ever reported.

Lay-off concerns for L.A. workers also increased to a record high, with 22 percent of workers reporting their organizations would be laying off staff in the coming months.

However, this gloomy news was tempered by optimism over personal finances, as half of the respondents said their financial situation was favorable a six point increase over August.

The Index tracks employee attitudes in 11 cities nationwide. Washington DC recorded the highest mark at 119.9, while New York dropped to the bottom slot at 84.4.

The Los Angeles Index was in the middle of the group, while the national figure fell 2.4 points based on responses from approximately 9,000 workers, coming in at 107.5.
