, a Calabasas-based homebuilder, reported net income of $118 million ($2.39 per diluted share) for the third quarter ended Sept. 30, compared with $83 million ($1.66) for the like period a year ago. Revenues rose 21.3 percent to $1.3 billion from $1 billion in the year-ago period.


Homebuilding revenues rose 21.7 percent to $1.2 billion for the third quarter, compared with $1 billion in the comparable period of the prior year, due to an 11.7 percent increase in closings and an 8.2 percent rise in the average price of a home, which rose to $278,000 from $257,000 a year earlier.


The company expects full-year earnings to exceed $8.75 per diluted share and said it is comfortable with the current analyst consensus of $10.02 per diluted share for 2006.


& #8226; Cheesecake Factory Inc. , a Calabasas Hills-based operator of casual dining restaurants, reported net income of $21.9 million (27 cents per diluted share) for the third quarter ended Sept. 27, compared with $12.4 million (16 cents) for the like period a year ago. Revenues rose 18 percent to $292.8 million from $247.7 million in the year-ago period.

The company said comparable restaurant sales increased 0.9 percent at The Cheesecake Factory and 3.8 percent at its Grand Lux Caf & #233; restaurants.


& #8226; East West Bancorp Inc. , the San Marino-based holding company of for East West Bank, reported net income of $28.6 million (52 cents per diluted share) for the third quarter ended Sept. 30, compared with $20.4 million (39 cents) for the like period a year ago.


The company had a negative provision for loan losses of $4.5 million, versus a negative provision of $5 million in the prior year. Total assets rose 32 percent to $7.9 billion on Sept. 30 from $6 billion on Dec. 31. Net interest income, before provision for loan losses, increased 35 percent to $71.6 million from $52.8 million a year earlier.


East West Bancorp expects full-year earnings of $1.94 to $1.95 per diluted share, up 5 percent from previous guidance of $1.85 to $1.87 per diluted share.
