U.S. chain store sales edged up in the fourth week and final week of February as department stores saw sales rise with the help of holiday promotional events, a report said Tuesday.
Sales in February to-date were up 2.0 percent compared with January. Sales at major retailers rose by 7.6 percent on a year-over-year basis for the week ended Feb. 27, said Redbook Research, an independent company.
The Redbook data are compiled from a sample of same-store sales at general merchandise retailers representing nearly 9,000 stores. Same-store sales measure revenue at stores open at least one year.
