Luxury market magazine publisher CurtCo Publishing has purchased the assets of San Diego Magazine Publishing Co., owner of the 53,000-circulation San Diego Magazine. Financial details of the deal were not released.

Besides taking over San Diego Magazine, which has been independently owned since it was founded in 1948, Malibu-based CurtCo also acquired San Diego Magazine Publishing Co.’s Magazine Custom Publishing division. The unit produces bimonthlies San Diego Lawyer and Garden Compass, as well as publications developed with The San Diego Convention and Visitors Bureau, San Diego North Convention and Visitors Bureau, and the San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce.

All 30 San Diego Magazine Publishing Co. employees will join CurtCo Publishing and continue in their current positions at the headquarters in San Diego, CurtCo said in a statement.

The transaction marks the second move by CurtCo which serves “ultra luxury markets” with 45 lifestyle publications including the Robb Report, Worth and ShowBoats International to extend its reach into affluent regional markets. In October 2004, the company acquired Gulfshore Media, publisher of Gulfshore Life and other regional luxury lifestyle magazines geared to wealthy readers along Florida’s gulf coast.

With the addition of the San Diego division, CurtCo said it now reaches more than 900,000 ultra-affluent readers through its magazines.
