The average price for regular unleaded gasoline in the city of Los Angeles rose for the second week in a row, up 1.9 cents over last week, according to the Automobile Club of Southern California. In its weekly Weekend Gas Watch, the Auto Club noted that pump prices as of Jan. 28 were 6 cents per gallon lower than one month ago and 24 cents higher than one year ago.

The average price for regular self-serve unleaded gasoline totaled $1.998 per gallon in Los Angeles on Jan. 28, compared with $1.938 one month before.

“Price increases are expected in the coming weeks because of crude oil price increases and lower output from California refineries,” said Auto Club spokeswoman Carol Thorp. “Local refineries are producing less due to scheduled maintenance and a regular springtime switch in gasoline formulas for air quality requirements, resulting in price increases for consumers.”

The lowest average price in Southern California, according to the report, is in Orange County, where regular is selling for $1.978. The Santa Barbara-Santa Maria-Lompoc area reported the highest average local price at $2.141.
