The National Weather Service declared a flash flooding warning for the area from Burbank north to the Verdugo hills and Boulder Canyon. Doppler radar estimates that 4 to 5 inches of rain has fallen over this area since about 2:30 p.m., the service reported.

The heavy rain producing flash flooding will remain over the Sun Valley, Sunland and Tujunga valley areas through 7:00 pm. The San Diego (5) and Foothill (210) freeways between the San Gabriel and San Fernando valleys will be impacted by the heavy rain. The area could experience rainfall rates in excess of an inch per hour through 7 pm.

The Weather Service warned that excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause significant flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other drainage areas and low lying spots.
