Gasoline prices continued their downward momentum in Los Angeles and throughout much of Southern California, creeping lower for the second straight week, the Automobile Club of Southern California said.

The average price for regular self-serve unleaded gasoline in Los Angeles slid 1.6 cents to $2.603 on Friday from $2.619 one week ago. The price was $2.408 per gallon one month ago, according to the Automobile Club of Southern California.

“Declines in crude oil prices that occurred over the past few weeks are now being reflected at local gas pumps in most areas,” said Auto Club spokesperson Carol Thorp. “The trend of slowly declining gas prices should continue through May.”

For the fourth Friday in a row, the lowest average price in Southern California was in Orange County, at $2.582. The Santa Barbara-Santa Maria-Lompoc area reported the highest average local price, at $2.730, and was the only Southern California area surveyed by AAA to have a price increase from last Friday, rising 1.4 cents.

The Weekend Gas Watch monitors the average price of gasoline as of 12:01 a.m., April 29.
