Numbers, Numbers: Some important economic data due out this week that could provide a few glimpses of whether there's a post-war recovery in sight. On Monday (21st), it's the leading economic indicators for March, durable goods data on Thursday (24th) and for Friday (25th) the first quarter gross domestic product number.
Earning Rush: First quarter reports are due out from a raft of firms this week, including j2 Global Communications, 99 Cents Only Stores, Amgen, JAKKS Pacific, California Pizza Kitchen, Occidental Petroleum, Hilton Hotels, Ryland Group, Stamps.com, Tekelec, WellPoint Health Networks, Guitar Center, American Pharmaceutical Partners, Metro-Goldwyn Mayer, K-Swiss, Digital Insight and VCA Antech.
Treasure Hunt: Larry King, Robert Maguire, Roy Romer and Keyshawn Johnson will be among those honored by the Central City Association on Thursday (24th) at its 9th annual Treasure of Los Angeles Luncheon at the Bonaventure Hotel. Sports Beat: The Clippers are long gone and the Lakers wind up with Minnesota in the first round of the NBA playoffs without home court advantage. The second game of the series is Tuesday (22nd) in Minnesota, moving to Staples on Thursday (24th) and Sunday (27th). The NBA changed the first round series to a best-of-seven format, which might be of some help to the road team Lakers. Other than the NBA, it's a pretty slow week, other than the NASCAR Busch Series on Saturday and Sunday (26th and 27th) at the California Speedway.
More Summits: The "State of the Southland Euro-American Economic Summit" will be held on Thursday (24th) at the Skirball Cultural Center from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Among the participants will be UCLA economist Edward Leamer. Earth Day: Among other local events, A Project of World Trust Foundation and the Natural Resources Defense Council will host an Earth Day celebration on the Third Street Promenade in Santa Monica on Saturday (19th).
