He will be responsible for new business development, operations, training and strategy. Lander was most recently director of corporate development for Information Forecast Inc.

Architecture

Steven Marc Drucker was appointed director of design at SmithGroup in Los Angeles. He will oversee design for the interior architecture practice. Drucker was formerly vice president and studio director with HOK in Los Angeles.

Mary Lee Duff was promoted to project director and associate at IA in Los Angeles. She will oversee the workplace strategies team, which handles the master planning and real estate areas for large corporate clients. Duff was most recently project manager with the firm.

Banking & Finance

Thomas J. Mortensen was named vice president and regional manager for Encino State Bank's loan production office in Woodland Hills. He will be responsible for business lending to small and mid-sized companies in the West Valley. Mortensen was most recently with First Professional Bank in Tarzana.

John Roberts was promoted to senior vice president and marketing manager for Fleet Capital's western division. He will be responsible for staffing, marketing and developing and expanding relationships with sponsor groups, financial intermediaries and prospective clients in Southern California, Arizona and Nevada. Roberts was most recently senior marketing officer for the division.

Construction

Denis G. Cullumber was named president of the Larwin Co. in Encino. He will serve as general manager of the Southern California division. Cullumber was most recently president of the Orange County division of Greystone Homes.

Engineering

Bert Ashland was named vice president at Professional Services Industries, an engineering testing and consulting firm in Long Beach. He will be responsible for strategic relationships and client development. Ashland was previously executive director of business development at Gentosi Builders.

Entertainment

Tracy Dolgin was promoted to president of Fox Sports Net in Los Angeles. He will oversee all operating areas, including marketing, advertising, on-air promotion, programming, production, operations and advertising sales. Dolgin was most recently chief operating officer for the network.

Jerry Giaquinta was promoted to executive vice president of corporate communications at Sony Pictures Entertainment in Culver City. He will be responsible for all media relations, corporate marketing communications and community affairs. Giaquinta was previously senior vice president of the department.

Chris Greenleaf was appointed vice president of development at Triage Entertainment in Sherman Oaks. He will work with executives at Viacom to develop a range of non-fiction television programming. Greenleaf was recently manager of programming and development at CBS/Eyemark Entertainment.

Mary Goss Robino was promoted to senior vice president of national promotions at New Line Cinema in Los Angeles. She will continue to be responsible for national promotional, print and broadcast tie-ins, overseeing product placement and acting as liaison to the licensing, home video, television and international divisions for all theatrical releases. Robino was formerly vice president of the division.

Don Stults was promoted to chief operating officer at Iwerks in Burbank. He will be responsible for coordinating internal management and overseeing daily operations for the sales, film distribution, touring, and owned-and-operated divisions of the company. Stults was previously senior vice president of operations.

High Tech

Larry Colson was named corporate vice president of human resources at Unova, a wireless networking technology supplier in Woodland Hills. He will be responsible for corporate and human resource functions. Colson was formerly vice president of consulting services with the Employers Group.

James Miller was appointed chief financial officer at Hollywood Software in Los Angeles. He will be responsible for financial, strategic and administrative affairs. Miller was formerly vice president and corporate controller at Spelling Entertainment Group.

Raymond D. Moore was named vice president of finance and administration for the health care group at Computer Sciences Corp. in El Segundo. He will be responsible for all finance, accounting, facilities, technology, acquisitions and contracts. Moore was most recently executive vice president and chief financial officer at America Direct Insurance Corp. in New York.

Hospitality

Doris Timmen was appointed director of food and beverage at The Fairmont Miramar in Santa Monica. She will oversee management of the hotel's restaurants, catering and conference services. Timmen was previously food and beverage manager of the Drake Hotel in Chicago.

Law

Briane Nelson Mitchell was named partner at Manatt, Phelps & Phillips in Los Angeles. He specializes in class-action litigation, technology and intellectual property matters, securities litigation, insurance coverage and international matters. Mitchell was formerly a name partner with Shapiro, Mitchell & Dupont in Los Angeles.

Manufacturing

Gabriel D. Tashjian was named senior vice president of sales at Capstone Turbine Corp. in Woodland Hills. He will oversee domestic and international sales and distribution. Tashjian was previously a director at GE Power Systems. Also, Daniel J. Callahan and Wade Welch were named vice presidents of quality deployment and administration, respectively. Callahan will be responsible for quality control and was most recently quality and reliability manager at Hewlett-Packard. Welch will oversee administration and human resources and formerly was the firm's vice president of quality deployment.

Media

Bob Gray was promoted to vice president and general manager of the Los Angeles Daily News in Woodland Hills. He will continue to oversee day-to-day business functions, including advertising, marketing, circulation, production and finance. Gray was previously general manager.

New Media

Craig Dado was named vice president at Youbet.com, a Web site that broadcasts horse racing and electronically links bettors with wagering facilities. He will be responsible for marketing and new business development. Dado was most recently vice president of marketing at Santa Anita Park in Arcadia.

Todd Piccus was named vice president of business and legal affairs at HomePage.com in Los Angeles. He will continue to oversee licensing and business development. Piccus was previously director of business and legal affairs for Mattel Interactive.

John Simonelli was appointed chief financial officer at Business.com, an online business directory based in Santa Monica. He will be responsible for accounting, finance, administration and human resources. Simonelli was formerly chief executive at PeopleMover.

Robert Wagman was named managing director of the Los Angeles office of myCFO, an online provider of financial management services. He will be responsible for office management and developing prospective business. Wagman was previously a partner at PricewaterhouseCoopers in Los Angeles.

Politics

Kathleen Patrick was appointed finance director for the California Republican Party in Burbank. She will oversee fund-raising activities. Patrick is president of McKenzie Dior.

Post Production

Paul Nesmith was appointed senior editor at Octane Post in Los Angeles. He will edit commercials, TV shows, promos and music videos. Nesmith was previously a senior editor at HMA Digital. Also, Paul Durant and Jennifer Lytle were named producers. Durant will handle in-house producing for the firm and was formerly operations manager at Lightning Dubbs in Burbank. Lytle will be in charge of scheduling, account management and client services and was most recently a production coordinator with Barking Weasel Productions.

Real Estate

John G. Ellis was named managing director at Integra Ellis Group in Woodland Hills. He will oversee real estate and counseling operations. Ellis was previously president of Ellis Group Inc. before the company merged with Integra Realty Resources.

Telecommunications

Larry Coval was promoted to vice president of sales at Teligent, a broadband communications provider in Los Angeles. He will oversee regional sales for greater Los Angeles and Northern California. Coval was previously director of sales for the company.
