Michele Lepkowski has joined Beverly Hills-based Pulsar Advertising as an account manager heading the heath care division, with primary emphasis on the LA Care account. Lepkowski previously was a marketing and sales liaison at Philadelphia-based SmithKline Beecham Pharmaceuticals.

Banking & Finance

Mark K. Mason has been appointed executive vice president and chief executive officer of Bank Plus Corporation and of its wholly-owned subsidiary Fidelity Federal Bank. In addition, Mason has been named chief operating officer for all holding company activities. Previously, he was executive vice president and chief financial officer of First Alliance Corporation.

Mark D. Orlando has been appointed vice president of the Los Angeles office of LaSalle National Bank. Previously, he worked with Bank of New York Financial Corporation. LaSalle specializes in providing loans to middle market companies for working capital and equipment financing, growth, acquisitions, restructurings and recapitalizations.

Jeffrey L. Powell has been named vice president at Los Angeles-based Kennedy-Wilson International. He will provide West Coast homebuilders with equity placement and debt financing. Powell previously was with Realty Marketing Advisors and Bank of America.


John W. Morgan has been elected executive vice president of operations at Los Angeles-based Occidental Petroleum Corp. He previously was vice president of operations.


Joe Abrams has joined Pearson Television International as executive vice president. Abrams, who has worked both in feature and television distribution and production, formerly was president of ABC Distribution Co.

Richard Battista has been named executive vice president of Fox Channels Group, a newly created division of Fox Television. He will work with executives within each of the Fox-owned subscription services. Battista previously served as executive vice president at Fox/Liberty Networks and as head of Fox Sports International.

Joseph DeMarco has been promoted to executive vice president of Fox Searchlight Pictures. He will work with the president in the day-to-day management of Searchlight as well as dealmaking and overseeing marketing and distribution. DeMarco previously was senior vice president of business affairs.

Ewa Martinoff has been named vice president of marketing and brand planning at Culver City-based Sony Signatures Film & Television. She will oversee the worldwide development, implementation and management of marketing and brand planning for Sony Signatures. Martinoff previously was international director of marketing for preschool toys at Mattel.

High Tech

Bill P. O'Connell has been named director of marketing for First Data Direct Banking, the Internet banking unit of New Jersey-based First Data Corp. Prior to joining Los Angeles-based Direct Banking, O'Connell served as vice president of marketing for Scoop Inc.


Jeffrey J. Bairstow has been named executive vice president of finance and administration and chief financial officer at Woodland Hills-based Health Net. He will be responsible for all aspects of financial operations. Bairstow comes to Health Net from America Service Group Inc., where he was chief operating officer.

Marc Nathan has been appointed vice president of compensation and benefits in human resources at Woodland Hills-based Wellpoint Health Networks. Nathan will be responsible for total compensation policies and programs. He previously was vice president of compensation and benefits for Tennessee-based Service Merchandise Co. Inc.


Howard Frumes has joined the entertainment law firm Alexander, Nau, Lawrence & Labowitz as a partner in the firm's Century City office. Most recently, he was a partner in the entertainment department of Manatt, Phelps, & Phillips. His practice encompasses the representation of novelists, screenwriters, directors, and producers.

Thomas Kidde has joined the Los Angeles-based law firm of Lewis, D'Amato, Brisbois & Bisgaard LLP as a partner. He specializes in intellectual property litigation, prosecution and counseling. Previously, Kidde was with Small, Larkin & Kidde.

John R. Liebman has joined Los Angeles-based McKenna & Cuneo LLP as of counsel. He will focus on financial transactions and international trade regulation. Liebman previously was a partner with Tuttle & Taylor. Mary Whitney Kenney has also joined the firm as of counsel. She is a former Wells Fargo Bank vice president and senior counsel.

Mitchell S. Shapiro has joined Wisconsin-based Foley & Lardner's Los Angeles office as partner. He represents franchisers, franchisees and franchisee associations. Rochelle Buchsbaum Spandorf has also joined the firm as partner. She counsels clients about all aspects of franchising and distribution law. Also joining the firm as partner is Douglas L. Carden. He practices business litigation with an emphasis in franchise and distribution law. All three were previously with Shapiro, Rosenfeld & Close in Los Angeles.

Kenneth J. Yood has been named partner at Los Angeles-based McCutchen, Doyle, Brown & Enerson LLP. He specializes in Medicare and Medi-Cal law, including program participation, reimbursement and administrative legislation. Yood previously was counsel. Also, Jay M. Gabriel has been advanced to the counsel position. He is a health care attorney who focuses on transactional issues, including corporate, real estate and environmental matters. Sandra Hughes Waddel has also been advanced to counsel. She specializes in environmental compliance counseling. Gabriel and Waddel previously were associates.


Dan Hollar has joined Los Angeles-based Reliance Steel & Aluminum Co. as group manager of all six tube service divisions. Hollar previously was tube service general sales manager.

James F. McEllis has been appointed vice president of U.S. operations at Align-Rite International Inc. The company manufactures and markets photomasks. McEllis previously served as department head of the imaging technology group, where he oversaw the company's semiconductor mask fabrication facility.

Real Estate

W. A. "Chuck" Colton III has been appointed vice president of residential development for Playa Vista, the residential and commercial community in Los Angeles. He will be responsible for residential development and property sales. Prior to joining Playa Vista, Colton served as senior vice president of residential development for the Sares Regis Group in Irvine, where he managed the acquisition and development of nearly 650 housing units.

Michael D. Foxworthy has joined Daum Commercial Real Estate Services as senior vice president and director of office services. He will be responsible for creating a business plan for Daum's office services efforts and will oversee the recruitment of office specialists for all nine Daum offices. Most recently, he served as president of Charles Dunn Co.


David Brucia has been appointed director of Western regional sales for Air France. He will handle the gateway cities of Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago, Houston and Miami, and the affiliated sales territories. Prior to joining Air France, Brucia spent 18 years at Alaska Airlines.
