GameSalad, a growing Los Angeles developer of software that makes it easier to create games for the iPhone and other Apple devices, has appointed Steve Felter as chief executive to take over from the company’s founder.
Felter succeeds Michael Agustin, who has taken on the role of chief product officer, GameSalad said late Wednesday.
Felter was a founder, chief operating officer and chief financial officer of DigiSynd, a social media marketing and analytics company that was acquired by Walt Disney Co. While at Disney, Felter oversaw Disney’s first in-house social media division. He earlier worked in corporate business development and strategy at Warner Bros.
GameSalad, founded in 2007, is considered the largest third-party development tool for creating games on Apple mobile devices. Its software enables game makers to rapidly design, publish and distribute original games without needing to write code. It has been used to create more than 4,500 games, the company said.
“Steve’s proven success in managing rapid-growth companies will greatly benefit GameSalad as we continue to expand, allowing me to focus on building out our product vision and designing great experiences for our customers,” Agustin said in a statement.
