Activision’s Guitar Hero Coming to iPhone

Activision Publishing Inc. late Monday announced that a version of its popular music franchise Guitar Hero will be available for the iPhone and iPod Touch.

The game was announced during Steve Jobs’ keynote address at the Worldwide Developers Conference in San Francisco. Jobs unveiled Apple’s latest iPhone 4, which will be available in stores on June 24. In addition to Guitar Hero, apps for the Netflix movie service and the FarmVille simulation game were announced for the phone.

Activision Publishing is a unit of Santa Monica-based video game producer Activision Blizzard Inc.

“With Guitar Hero for the iPhone and iPod Touch, we are once again leveraging our leadership position in the music/rhythm video game space to deliver an all-new Guitar Hero experience that millions of people around the world can enjoy anytime, anywhere,” David Haddad, chief operating officer for the Guitar Hero unit, said in a statement Tuesday morning.

Shares were down 12 cents, or 1 percent, to $10.48 in midday trading on the Nasdaq.
