Century City television studio Sonar Entertainment announced Dec. 11 that it secured a $121 million production finance facility.

Bethesda, Maryland-based MidCap Financial led the financing round.

Tom Lesinski, Sonar’s executive, said in an interview that the facility approximately doubles the amount of money the company has available to produce and finance shows. The money will be used to finance an additional 21 projects to the 17 that the company already has in production.

Lesinski said that the company has been able to expand its output, because of a favorable, current television market in which broadcast stations and cable channels have the money to help finance programs.

“The TV business is a much stronger economic business,” with a lower risk profile than movies, Lesinski said, because of the partnerships of TV channels.

The company’s shows include AMC’s “The Son,” starring Pierce Brosnan, and “The Hunt,” a show produced with Jordan Peele for Amazon.com Inc.

Sonar started in New York City, but it moved to Century City five years ago, Lesinski said. The company currently has about 50 employees.
