Federated Sports + Gaming on Tuesday said that it acquired Heartland Poker Tour, which bills itself as the leading “grassroots” poker tour and one of the largest independent producers of poker content on television.
Federated Sports, which is based in Los Angeles and plans to launch its own series of televised poker tournaments in Las Vegas this summer, did not disclose terms of the deal. Fargo, N.D.-based Heartland Poker aims to give poker enthusiasts a televised tournament experience with an affordable buy-in, it said.
Heartland Poker Tour is now filming its seventh season, primarily at Indian casinos, and is syndicated to more than 100 million U.S. homes each week, as well as markets throughout Europe, the Middle East and the Caribbean. It was founded in 2005 by entrepreneurs Todd Anderson and Greg Lang. Operations will remain in North Dakota.
“HPT is one of the great success stories in the poker industry,” Federated Sports Chairman Jeffrey Pollack said in a statement. “In a relatively short period of time, the Heartland Poker Tour has firmly established itself as an important national brand with a passionate, loyal player base. The addition of HPT to the FS+G family fits perfectly with our approach.”
