Teledyne Technologies Inc. on Wednesday said it planned to buy British electronics maker Intelek Plc. in a deal valued at nearly $41.5 million, including the assumption of debt.

Teledyne of Thousand Oaks, which makes electronic components and subsystems, said the deal would expand its capabilities in microwave systems.

Intelek, based in Swindon, west of London, is a group of companies that designs and manufactures electronic systems for satellite and microwave communication. Its products include equipment used in the terrestrial segment of the satellite communications market and microwave circuits and components for defense electronics and global telecommunications.

“The operations of Intelek are highly complementary,” said Teledyne’s Chief Executive Robert Mehrabian in a statement. “By combining our capabilities, we believe that Teledyne will be able to offer, over time, an enhanced range of … solid state amplifier systems for communications, radar and electronic warfare applications.”

Shares were up 4 cents, or less than 1 percent, to $39.26 in midday trading on the New York Stock Exchange.
