Target to Feature Disney Channel Fashions

The Walt Disney Co. and Target Co. on Wednesday announced a new apparel line aimed at “tween” girls and based on the fashion look of characters on the Disney Channel’s live-action shows.

The “D-Signed” line will be exclusively sold at Target stores by the holiday season, the companies said. What will be different from previous Disney deals is that the clothing and accessories will not feature Disney Channel characters but will be based on the kind of clothing “you would find in their closet,” according to the companies. Tween girls are about 10 to 12 years old.

“Tween girls want fashionable clothes that express their individuality and style but that moms approve of,” Pam Lifford, Disney Consumer Products’ executive vice president for global fashion and home, said in a statement.

The first items in the line will be based off Demi Lovato’s character Sonny Monroe from the show “Sonny With a Chance.” Another collection will feature the types of styles that Selena Gomez’ character Alex Russo wears on “Wizards of Waverly Place.” The items generally will range in price from $4.99 to $19.99.

Shares of Disney, based in Burbank, closed down 59 cents, or less than 2 percent, to $32.81 on the New York Stock Exchange.
