What the McCourt Divorce Teaches about Shielding Assets

There are many lessons in the high-price McCourt divorce being argued this week.

It has taught us that even the most iron-clad of post-nuptial agreements can be challenged if you have a good (and perhaps as important, famous) attorney. It has taught us that sleeping with one of your husband’s employees doesn’t make for the best marital relations (or PR). And it has taught us the cost of Russian psychics has skyrocketed for the wealthy ($150,000 a year).

But the greatest lesson from the salacious split between Jamie and Frank McCourt has gone mostly unnoticed. That is the lesson of how the wealthy shield their assets from creditors.
