Longtime Sony executive Steve Mosko has been promoted to chairman of the company’s television business.

He had been president of Sony Pictures Television since 2000 and oversaw a string of critical and commercial hits, including AMC’s “Breaking Bad” and “Better Call Saul,” NBC’s “The Blacklist” and Showtime’s “Masters of Sex.”

Mosko will report to Michael Lynton, Sony Pictures Entertainment’s chief executive, who said in a statement, “Steve is a remarkable executive and under his leadership Sony Pictures Television has become the industry’s leading independent television studio.”

Mosko’s move to the newly created chairman position comes seven months after Tom Rothman was named chairman of the Culver City studio’s movies division.
