SpaceIL awarded $1 million Moonshot prize; Disney outlines subscription plan costs; GoDaddy scoops up Sellbrite
Xprize Gives SpaceIL Moonshot Award
Even though its lunar lander was lost yesterday, Israeli aerospace firm SpaceIL was still awarded the $1 million “Moonshot Award” by Playa Vista-based Xprize Foundation Inc. Socaltech reports the lander launched from a SpaceX Falcon 9 Rocket experienced last-minute engine failure yesterday, but notes the launch was still no small feat for the 50-person team working on a $100 million budget.
Pasadena-based Sellbrite Inc., developer of e-commerce software, was acquired by Scottsdale, Ariz.-based web hosting company GoDaddy Inc. April 10. Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. TechCrunch reports the acquisition will allow GoDaddy to expand its online marketplace business and allow more small businesses to list their goods online.
Variety reports Burbank-based Walt Disney Co. released its pricing information for Disney+, its new subscription streaming service set to debut in November. At roughly half the price of Netflix Inc. subscriptions, the Disney+ $7 monthly rate will allow users to access content from its various subsidiaries, including Marvel, LucasFilm Ltd., West Hollywood-based Hulu, and Pixar Inc.
