RealD Inc. has signed a deal with Chinese language film producer and distributor Mei Ah Entertainment Group Ltd. to install its 3-D technology in one hundred screens in China.
The Beverly Hills company, which did not disclose terms of the deal on Monday, said Hong Kong company plans to add 500 screens over the next five years in China.
“With the current demand for 3-D in China outweighing the number of screens available, we look forward to equipping MAEG cinemas with RealD 3-D technology as they continue to expand in China,” said Edman Chan, general manager of RealD’s Greater China, Southeast Asia and Korea region, in a statement.
RealD technology now is available on about 460 cinema screens in China, the company said, with future commitments for 1,200 more screens.
Shares were down 27 cents, or less than 3 percent, to $10 in midday trading on the Nasdaq.
