In a weekend sell-off of celebrity memorabilia, Julien’s Auctions in West Hollywood sold three X-rays of Marilyn Monroe’s chest for $45,000.
The X-rays were from a 1954 visit by the film star to Cedars of Lebanon Hospital for “a female disorder,” according to hospital records. It was later determined to be endometriosis. The visit occurred two weeks after her divorce from baseball star Joe Di Maggio, but the name on the X-rays is “Marilyn Di Maggio.
The pre-auction estimated price of the X-rays was $800 to $1,200 each.
A young radiologist kept the X-rays and occasionally used them when teaching medical classes “to ensure that students were paying attention,” the Julien catalog states.
Other items at the June 27 auction in Las Vegas included Marilyn Monroe’s chair from her last photo shoot which sold for $35,000 and an Audrey Hepburn dress worn in the movie “Funny Face” that fetched $56,250.
