The Los Angeles Times reported on Jan. 28 that Jim Kirk has been named editor-in-chief, replacing Lewis D’Vorkin, who held the position for four months.

D’Vorkin will become chief content officer for Tronc, the Times’ parent company, which also publishes the Chicago Tribune, the New York Daily News, the Baltimore Sun and the San Diego Union-Tribune.

The news comes on the heels of the Jan. 19 suspension of Times publisher and CEO Ross Levinson following allegations of sexual harassment in the past.

Another Times executive, President Mickie Rosen, is also leaving the L.A. Times to take another position within Tronc, according to a NeimanLab story. Rosen had joined the paper in October, at the same time as D’Vorkin, who replaced Davan Maharaj, who was let go in August. Prior to D’Vorkin’s appointment, Kirk served as interim editor following Maharaj’s dismissal.

On Jan. 19, the L.A. Times newsroom voted 248 to 44 to form a union, marking the first newsroom union in the paper’s 136-year history.
