J2 Global Communications, a telephone networking and message management company in Hollywood, has acquired Alban Telecom Ltd. an enhanced voice services provider in the United Kingdom.
Alban offers businesses technical services such as voice mail and call forwarding. It also buys phone numbers on behalf of clients. Businesses can buy free numbers (similar to 1-800 numbers in the U.S.), numbers with non-geographic area codes, or specific numbers for marketing purposes. Alban owns more than 300,000 numbers.
J2 said in a statement that the acquisition “expands J2 Global’s voice service customer base in the U.K.”
Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed, but the J2 statement said the deal would not materially affect the company’s finances.
In late morning trading, shares of J2 rose 86 cents, or nearly 4 percent, to $24.48 on the Nasdaq.
