Break Media, which operates media web sites targeting young men and is 42-percent owned by Lions Gate Entertainment Corp., reportedly is seeking new investors to finance its expansion.
The Los Angeles company, whose Chickipedia, ScreenJunkies.com and similar sites are aimed at 18-to-34-year-old men, has hired Raine Group LLC for a strategic review, sources told Bloomberg News late Tuesday.
The sites stream humor, TV shows, sports news and short videos that reach more than 120 million male visitors a month. The flagship Break.com site ranks 299th on Alexa.com’s list of most-visited U.S. Internet addresses.
Lions Gate, the Santa Monica studio and distributor with corporate headquarters in Vancouver, British Columbia, acquired its stake in June 2007 for $21.4 million in stock. The company has since loaned Break Media $9.7 million, according to regulatory filings.
Lions Gate and Break Media officials declined comment for the story.
