Walt Disney Co. has acquired Babble Media Inc., an online site that features more than 200 mothers who write blogs on a variety of parents’ topics.

The Burbank entertainment giant on Monday said the site will become part of its Disney Interactive Media Group to provide an additional resource for mothers and their families. Financial details of the deal were not disclosed.

Babble was founded in 2006, and last year was named by Time magazine as one of the 50 Best Websites of 2010 and by Forbes as one of the Top 100 Websites for Women. It will remain based in New York, and co-founders Rufus Griscom and Alisa Volkman will join the Disney Interactive Media Group.

“Parents’ relationships with Disney are founded in stories, and Disney’s best stories are about families,” said Brooke Chaffin, senior vice president of Moms and Family, Disney Interactive Media Group, in a statement. “We believe that Babble and Disney can harness the power of storytelling to inform, entertain and empower parents everywhere.”

Disney shares were down 72 cents, or 2 percent, to $35.98 in midday trading on the New York Stock Exchange.
