Joseph Kapsch, who has been editorial director at entertainment news site Zap2it, has been hired by the rival Hollywood Reporter as editor of its THR.com site, the entertainment magazine announced Thursday.
Kapsch, who starts his new job May 31, succeeds Brian Alexander, who left for a similar position at USA Today. Before Zap2it, Kapsch was deputy entertainment editor for online at the Los Angeles Times, where he ran daily news operations for the awards site The Envelope and worked on a redesign of the site’s entertainment section.
The change in leadership comes as THR.com has increasingly emphasized breaking news and grown in popularity. Industry tracker ComScore reports that the site had 4.6 million unique visitors in April, up 14 percent from the previous month and placing THR.com in the top 1 percent of all websites.
