Entertainment titan David Geffen has donated $100 million to New York’s Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts.
The concert hall there, long known as Avery Fisher Hall, will be renamed David Geffen Hall in September.
A movie and music mogul long associated with Los Angeles, Geffen, 72, was ranked sixth on the Business Journal’s list of Wealthiest Angelenos last year, with a fortune estimated at $5.9 billion. Born in Brooklyn, he said he saw Lincoln Center being built during his teenage years.
“As a native New Yorker, I recognize that Lincoln Center is a beacon to artists and musicians around the world. To be involved with such a beloved and iconic institution is deeply satisfying,” he said in a statement.
