Report: Disney Plans Studio Jobs Cuts

Walt Disney Co. plans to cut about 5 percent of employees at its studio division, roughly 200 jobs, as the company realigns distribution and relies more on production from recent acquisitions.

The Burbank entertainment giant is likely to send out most of the pink slips next week, sources told Bloomberg News and other media. The studio unit has about 5,000 employees, including Marvel, which it acquired last year and Pixar, which it bought in 2006.

The company last year restructured its worldwide distribution operation, which also handles films made by Steven Spielberg’s DreamWorks Studios. Production, distribution, business development and other positions are being eliminated, and some cuts have already been made, one person told Bloomberg.
