Santa Monica independent studio Lions Gate Entertainment Corp. and New York media company Tribeca Enterprises will partner on a new digital subscription video-on-demand service, the companies announced Monday.
The service, Tribeca Short List, will feature titles from both companies’ libraries and a curated selection of films from around the world. It is slated to launch in 2015.
The new service will be based in New York and will be led by Lions Gate and Tribeca executives.
With the partnership, Lions Gate adds its name to a fast-growing list of companies offering an internet-based service directly to consumers. Last week, ESPN announced plans to launch a streaming service for NBA games. Then HBO announced it will cut the cable cord sometime next year and sell its streaming video service, HBO Go, as a stand-alone product. A day after HBO, CBS announced its planned subscription service, which will feature most of the company’s content.
Shares of Lions Gate were flat on Monday at $30.07.
