Lions Gate to Distribute ‘Apocalypse’

Lions Gate Entertainment on Monday announced a home entertainment distribution deal with Francis Ford Coppola’s Zoetrope Studio.

The agreement includes North American DVD, Blu-ray, video on demand and Internet streaming rights to Coppola films such as “Apocalypse Now.”

The first title distributed under the deal will be “Tetro,” a family drama released in 2009. The next title will be “Apocalyse Now,” which Lions Gate will offer in high-definition for the first time Oct. 19.

In a statement Lions Gate Chief Operating Officer Steve Beeks said Coppola had created some of the most financially successful and critically acclaimed movies in history, and his company looked forward to releasing this films in all formats.

Coppola’s “Godfather” movies, which were Paramount productions, aren’t included.

In mid-day trading, Lions Gate stock moved up 13 cents, or 2 percent, to $6.91.
