AwesomenessTV Will Launch Channel for Moms

DreamWorks Animation’s AwesomenessTV online teen network will launch a second network later this year aimed at mothers in the millennial generation.

AwestruckTV will feature a mix of scripted and unscripted original content for viewing on YouTube, Facebook video and a new video streaming service from Verizon Wireless, according to media reports.

AwesomenessTV Chief Executive Brian Robbins said millennial mothers in their late 20s and early 30s are underserved by online content.

“We recognized a similar opportunity when we launched AwesomenessTV as teen viewing habits were dramatically shifting to online video. Awestruck will engage millennial moms as their viewing behaviors make a similar shift,” Robbins said in a prepared statement.

The new network is the second major expansion of AwesomenessTV in two months. In March, DreamWorks announced that the network would program a channel of scripted and unscripted content for teens and young millennials on Verizon’s mobile streaming service.

The Glendale animation studio acquired AwesomenessTV in 2013 for $33 million. It sold off a 25 percent stake to Hearst Corp. last year for $81 million as part of a deal that gave it access to Seventeen magazine content.

DreamWorks shares closed down 38 cents, or 1.4 percent, to $25.75 on the Nasdaq.
