Van Wagner Communications, an outdoor advertising firm in Studio City, announced on Friday it will remove 60 supergraphics from buildings in Los Angeles amid the City Attorney’s crackdown on the massive signs.
The supergraphics are under protection of a stay order, the company said in its announcement, and Van Wagner is removing them voluntarily from buildings in Hollywood, mid-Wilshire and downtown Los Angeles.
The voluntary removal comes just weeks after City Attorney Carmen Trutanich launched a legal fight to force building owners to take down supergraphics. Two companies, CBS Outdoor and Fuel Outdoor, have already taken down signs in response to cease-and-desist letters from Trutanich.
Van Wagner said the removal of its supergraphics shows that it wants to work with city officials on a finding a permanent solution to sign regulation.
“We have consistently pushed for tighter regulation, more accountability and greater enforcement,” Chief Executive Richard Schaps said in a statement. “While this move costs Van Wagner serious revenue dollars in a very tough economy, we think it’s time for the industry to step up and do our part to be part of the solution.”
