BUZZ: Made headlines last year as producer of films with social conscience, including “Waiting for ‘Superman’” and “Casino Jack and the United States of Money.” Previous hit films include “Charlie Wilson’s War,” and “An Inconvenient Truth.” Big Democrat supporter spends considerable time traveling globe with political leaders in support of causes. Born into Montreal Jewish family. Father owned chemical company; mother was teacher. Left Canada for MBA program at Stanford. Through Capricorn, an early investor in Tesla Motors; can be seen driving red Tesla on streets of Los Angeles. Al Gore also investor in Capricorn. Recently formed operating company, Jeff Skoll Group, to oversee entire portfolio of philanthropic and commercial enterprises, including Jeffrey Skoll Foundation. Wealth hasn’t brought relief from chronic back pain; five failed surgeries. Never married, remains single.
