In a major leadership transition, Encino-based Zevia has tapped Alexandre Ruberti as the new president and chief executive to lead the zero-calorie beverage company.
Ruberti, who served as Zevia board member since August 2024, replaces Amy Taylor, who left the role to lead National Women’s Soccer League’s Angel City Football Club. Both will stay on the board, with Taylor assisting the transition until Aug. 7.
Formerly holding senior roles across packaged goods companies from Santa Monica-based Red Bull Distribution Co. to Seal Beach-based Zico Rising Inc., Ruberti brought over 25 years of experience to a company that’s facing increased competition as consumers home in on sugar-free sodas.
“Alexandre combines deep industry expertise with a proven ability to build exceptional teams, execute strategy and scale businesses for long-term success,” Andy Ruben, chair of the board, said in a statement. “The board is confident that he will build on our strong foundation and drive continued growth, innovation, and value creation for all stakeholders.”
More interest, more competition
Having seen investor interest ebb and flow since its $150 million initial public offering in 2021, Zevia is now facing a phase of growth. Net sales jumped to $46.1 million in the first quarter this year, an increase of 21.2% compared to the same period in 2025. The primary profit drivers are e-commerce and club offerings.
However, manufacturing costs such as higher aluminum prices have dented the profit margins, with 48.4% in the first quarter of 2026 compared to a record 50.1% in the first quarter last year. Other competitors have also joined the market, including Dunkin’ Zero, a sugar-free energy drink by Massachusetts-based restaurant chain Dunkin’ Donuts.
“Zevia has reached a clear inflection point and established a strong foundation for accelerated growth and profitability,” said Ruberti in a statement. “The focus now shifts from rebuilding to accelerating execution and capturing the full potential of the brand.”
