International Rectifier Buys Chip Maker

International Rectifier Corp. on Friday said that it agreed to acquire CHiL Semiconductor Corp. for $75 million in cash.

The El Segundo chip maker said that privately-held CHiL, which is based in Tewksbury, Mass., developed a digital power management platform that improves energy efficiency in a wide variety of applications, including computing systems, graphics, servers and gaming.

“Digital power management is entering a rapid adoption phase and the addition of CHiL’s technology strengthens IR’s market position to capitalize on this growth opportunity,” Tim Phillips, International Rectifier’s vice president for its enterprise power business, said in a statement.

The transaction is expected to close in the current quarter and will accretive to its earnings by its 2012 fiscal year.

Shares closed up $1.40, or 3.4 percent, to $32.18 on the New York Stock Exchange.
