OSI Systems, a maker of security scanners and other industrial electronic equipment, announced Thursday it has landed a $5 million contract for a train inspection scanner.

The Hawthorne company’s security division, Rapiscan Systems, will build the security system for an unnamed customer in Eastern Europe, according to the announcement.

The Eagle Rail Inspection Scanner uses X-rays to detect metal weapons, plastic explosives, illegal drugs, precious metals and cameras or recording devices inside cargo trains. More than 150 of the systems have been installed worldwide.

“This most recent order from a key Eastern European customer demonstrates the continued high demand for Eagle transmission X-ray cargo and vehicle inspection systems,” OSI Systems Chief Executive Deepak Chopra said in a statement.

Shares of OSI gained 55 cents or 2 percent to trade at $29.78 in midday trading on the Nasdaq.
