Kombucha Maker Brews Up $7 Million

Health-Ade, a West L.A. kombucha drink producer, has raised $7 million from a group of undisclosed investors, according to a March 16 filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

The firm is seeking $12 million in total, according to the filing.

Health-Ade was founded in 2012 by husband and wife Justin and Daina Trout, along with Vanessa Dew. The company has tapped into the health food, kosher and vegan markets with their small-batch crafted kombucha, a fermented tea with naturally occurring probiotics among other digestive health benefits.

The Health-Ade line includes nine flavors, with products sold at Whole Foods, Lassens and other specialty food shops.

A spokesperson for Health-Ade could not be reached for comment.
