Hydrogen-Powered Ideas on Display in Long Beach

After some five years of planning and decades of dreaming, engineers are laying the groundwork for a new generation of hydrogen fueling stations across California.

Praised for their durability and lack of emissions, hydrogen vehicles are expected to double in number in California each year until 2017, when an estimated 50,000 will be cruising Golden State highways and roads. And dozens of stations are going up to service these cars, trucks, buses, motorcycles and forklifts of a not-too-distant future.

Kashuba was among the dozens of technology, policy and industry experts present at the National Hydrogen Association’s annual conference Tuesday in Long Beach. The automakers have distributed and sold hundreds of their hydrogen vehicles in recent months to motorists in Orange and Los Angeles counties, and plan to expand as more fueling stations come online.
