Ford Motor Co. has selected Monrovia’s AeroVironment Inc. to install home charging stations for its plug-in cars.

The company will supply and install charging stations for customers who drive Ford’s Focus Electric, C-Max Energi and Tusion Energi vehicles, AeroVironment said in a statement on Thursday.

The Ford deal will add to the 11,000 charging stations AeroVironment has already deployed in North America. The 240-volt chargers will cut the charge time for the Ford cars in half, the company said.

“AeroVironment looks forward to delivering a complete home charging solution to Ford plug-in customers so they can enjoy the benefits and convenience of faster charging and cleaner driving,” said Wahid Nawabi, general manager of AeroVironment’s Efficient Energy Systems business segment.

Customers who want the chargers have to call AeroVironment to schedule an installation appointment. The chargers cost car owners about $1,000.

Founded in 1971 by Paul MacCready, the company is also a manufacturer of small unmanned aerial vehicles, commonly known as drones.

It’s best known for its electric-powered Raven, Puma and Wasp surveillance drones, which it sells to the U.S. military.

Shares of AeroVironment fell 1.3 percent to $19.89 on the Nasdaq.
