Teledyne Technologies Inc. on Monday said that it has acquired Optimum Optical Systems, a maker of custom optics and assemblies used in small unmanned aerial vehicles.

Thousand Oaks-based Teledyne said the acquisition of the Camarillo company would expand its capabilities in making tactical infrared imaging systems, now done by its Teledyne Imaging Sensors unit. The company in March obtained a minority interest in another related company, Optical Alchemy Inc.

“The acquisition of Optimum Optical further expands Teledyne’s capabilities and product offerings in tactical infrared imaging systems,” said Chief Executive Robert Mehrabian in a statement.

Financial terms of the deal were not announced. Optimum Optical will be renamed Teledyne Optimum Optical Systems Inc.

Shares were down 62 cents, or 1.6 percent, to $38.15 in midday trading on the New York Stock Exchange.
