Gareth James will take over as dean of the UCLA Anderson School of Management in July, succeeding interim dean Margaret Shih and Antonio Bernardo, who stepped down from the full-time role last year. He’ll come from the Goizueta Business School at Emory University, where he has served as dean since 2022; there he helped launch three new degree programs, hired 22 additional full-time faculty members and grew the school’s enrollment by 35%. It’ll be a return to Los Angeles for James: he was for nearly 25 years a data sciences and operations faculty member at the USC Marshall School of Business. A New Zealand native, James is the co-author of foundational statistics textbook “An Introduction to Statistical Learning.”
