LA500 2025: Michael Jones

Michael Jones

Founder, Managing Director
Science Inc.

Jones had a hand in some of the earliest forms of social media. He founded instant messaging platform Userplane, which was acquired by AOL in 2006, and ran Myspace as its chief executive starting in 2010, and also helped sell the company. He quickly delved into the world of angel investing before he helped start Science Inc., a startup incubator and venture capital firm based in Santa Monica, in 2011. The goal of the firm was to bolster the consumer goods marketplace. As a co-founder and managing director, Michael Jones had a hand in establishing popular consumer packaged goods like Santa Monica-based Liquid Death, Dollar Shave Club Inc. (which was acquired for $1 billion), Santa Monica-based Pray.com and Culver City-based Scopely Inc. (which was also acquired for $4.9 billion).
