Maltzan founded his namesake firm in 1995 after working for seven years with Frank Gehry’s firm on the design of the Walt Disney Concert Hall. Notable local projects include the Sixth Street Viaduct, the renovation of the Hammer Museum in Westwood, the One Santa Fe mixed-use project in downtown L.A.’s Arts District and the Star Apartments in collaboration with downtown’s Skid Row Housing Trust. Outside of California, his firm’s key projects include the Vassar Street Residential Hall at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Boston, the Moody Center for the Arts at Rice University in Houston and the Winnipeg Art Gallery Intuit Art Center. In 2023, he was inducted as a member of the American Academy of Arts and Letters.
