Quiñones was appointed chief executive and chief engineer of the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power last year. She is the second woman and first Latina to serve as the head of the LADWP. In her role the department has made a number of executive appointments in an effort to advance its goals, started Cool LA Heat Relief for Seniors events; and put the first phase of the Eland Solar & Storage Center online. Power from the center will be 7% of L.A.’s total energy consumption, enough to power more than 266,000 households. Quiñones also serves on the board of the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce and the Smart Electric Power Alliance and has been in active service as a commander in the U.S. Coast Guard reserves since 2004.
