Homeboy Industries
Boyle, a Jesuit priest, is the founder of Homeboy Industries, the largest gang-intervention, rehabilitation and re-entry program in the world. He previously served as a pastor of Dolores Mission Church in Boyle Heights. The area had a high concentration of gang activity and founded what became Homeboy Industries in 1988. The group employs and trains former gang members and provides services. Boyle is also an author, having written books including “Tattoos on the Heart: The Power of Boundless Compassion” and “Cherished Belonging: The Healing Power of Love in Divided Times.” He has received the California Peace Prize and has been inducted into the California Hall of Fame. Last year he was a recipient of The Presidential Medal of Freedom.
