Tutor Perini Nabs $315M Contract

It’s the biggest contract award in four months for the company.

A subsidiary of Sylmar-based civil construction firm Tutor Perini Corp. has been awarded a $315 million contract from the U.S. Coast Guard to build a new fuel pier at the Coast Guard base in Kodiak Alaska. It’s the biggest contract award in four months for the company.

Tutor Perini also announced that another subsidiary, Fisk Electric Services, has won a $24 million contract for electrical work that is part of construction of a new data center in the Houston area.

The Framingham, Massachusetts-based Perini Management Services subsidiary announced the Coast Guard project award earlier this month. The contract value will be included in Tutor Perini’s third quarter project backlog total, which includes remaining revenue expected from signed contracts.

Design work on the pier project began last month and substantial completion is expected in September 2030.

The overall goal of the offshore project is to expand the dock capacity to provide up to two major Coast Guard cutter berths. The project also includes unexploded ordnance removal, waterfront improvements, a new fueling utility building, utilities, cutter shoreties, and other site amenities.

Another job: building a data center

As for the Fisk Electric Services data center contract, the announcement said the identity of the data center customer is confidential. Data center construction has become an intense political flashpoint this year as nearby communities have resisted the building of new data centers.

Fisk Electric’s scope of work includes prefabrication and assembly of modular containment systems and related electrical infrastructure, including liquid-cooled components and piping, for the ground-up construction of this data center.

These units will be built at Fisk’s new 75,000-square-foot prefabrication/manufacturing facility in Houston and then transported to the data center site. Such prefabrication has become essential as the explosion in data center construction has led to a shortage of electricians, the announcement said.

Electrical construction work on this Houston data center project is expected to begin in coming weeks, with substantial completion anticipated in the first quarter of next year.

The contract value will be added to Tutor Perini’s third quarter project backlog.
