Last week, Inglewood city officials broke ground on their scaled-down $261 million Inglewood Transit Connector project aimed at improving mobility between the Metro K Line, the Downtown/Market Street area and the Sports and Entertainment District around SoFi Stadium.
The 1.6-mile project includes three mobility hubs for improved access to buses and a series of streetscape beautifications.
Concord-based Swinerton is the major construction contractor, with the Plenary Americas subsidiary of Melbourne, Australia-based firm Plenary Group providing much of the project financing and oversight. Houston-based Walter P Moore and Associates Inc. is the lead designer.
The project is expected to wrap up in the spring of 2028, just three months before the Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games bring many events to Inglewood, including the Opening Ceremony and swimming events at SoFi Stadium and basketball events across the street at the Intuit Dome.
Relocated businesses
One of the mobility hubs is a combination parking lot and bus plaza slated for a parcel near Market Steet and Florence Avenue that currently contains a shopping center.
Roughly 20 businesses in that shopping mall are having to relocate; according to city officials, 11 have secured new locations within the city while others are in discussions and/or negotiations with city officials on relocating.
