WiserCare, a Westwood-based digital health company that helps guide patients during medical care, has appointed Dr. Daniel J. Castillo as its new chief executive.

Castillo, a practicing emergency physician in Evanston, Ill., joins the firm after serving three years as chief strategy officer at Evolution Health, a division of Envision Healthcare based in Dallas.

He had previously served as national medical director of healthcare quality evaluation at the nonprofit Joint Commission accrediting agency.

The privately held company, founded in 2013, provides a cloud-based platform to guide patients on what treatment options fit them best, while also preparing doctors for patient care. It serves patients, health care providers, insurance companies and employers.

WiserCare raised $2 million in a seed round in 2013 backed by Okapi Venture Capital of Laguna Beach and Vidinovo, according to Crunchbase. It raised another $2.7 million in a venture round in August 2016.
