Several Los Angeles hospitals scored high marks in U.S. News & World Report’s Best Hospitals rankings released Tuesday morning.

UCLA Medical Center tied for third place on the Honor Roll, which is reserved for hospitals across the country ranking at or near the top in six or more specialties, including cancer care and orthopedics.

Cedars-Sinai was the top-ranked hospital in the Los Angeles Metro region, followed by UCLA Medical Center, Keck Medical Center of USC and Kaiser Permanente’s Los Angeles Medical Center. Local rankings were based on performance in both complex and common care. The four also among the Top 10 statewide.

The Best Hospitals methodology measures patient volume, risk-adjusted survival rates and adequacy of nurse staffing, among other care-related indicators. In the specialty rankings, physicians are surveyed about which hospitals they consider the best equipped to handle difficult cases in their particular expertise. A handful of the specialties are ranked solely on these reputational results.
