The UCLA Stein Eye Institute has received a $1 million gift from Joan and Jerome Snyder to set up an endowed faculty chair in its department of ophthalmology.

The institute announced the donation July 12 it says will advance the teaching and research of vision science.

The Snyders have supported the Stein Eye Institute for four decades, and have endowed two other faculty chairs focused on ophthalmology and on cornea diseases.

Jerome Snyder is founder and senior partner of the J.H. Snyder Co, a real estate development firm based in Mid-Wilshire, listed as among the top firms in the U.S.

The Snyders’ latest gift is part of a $4.2 billion UCLA Centennial Campaign, slated to end in December 2019 during the university’s 100th year.
